Home Visiting Funding from the Federal Health Care Reform Legislation Status Report: Jean Mitchell shared updated information from DHMH sent by Mary LaCasse. The information will be posted on the MFN website with other Home Visiting Consortium information related to this meeting. Mary requested that stakeholders save August 9 for a full day meeting. The group at large agreed that there is substantial information about outcomes, infrastructure and home visiting relationships that are not well described or housed in one place for ready access. Our purposes would be better served with a clear, local planning effort to gather and organize home visiting information than to pay for this kind of information gathering from expected grant funds. Programs at the table were urged to conceptualize their local program model and delivery system to facilitate the development of a state-wide concept. The group concurred that with a five to seven year window for building a program, we will save a lot of time and resources by collaborating, using already existing local collaborations and focusing on mutual outcomes. The following questions were generated for DHMH: What is the expected format for the August 9 meeting? Who will be invited? Jean noted that the Home Visiting Consortium email list will be used as one way of inviting attendees to the stakeholders meeting. Parents as Teachers Annual Program Report: Nancy Corcoran updated information about the Parents As Teachers Annual Program Report process. The National Center has a new look to their website as of this week which generated some questions about accessing the APR. The deadline for completing the APR is still July 15, but there is a grace period until September 15. At that time a late fee will be assessed on programs who are renewing their certification. November 17, 2010 Conference Planning This years Home Visiting Conference will be held at the Columbia Hilton. The Hilton was chosen because it can accommodate approximately 150 - 200 people, it has more breakout rooms, and the size of the rooms is more consistent. We did not meet our capacity last year. This year, we will be able to include supervisors and program managers. With the addition of programs as a result of expansion dollars, the Hilton was determined to be a more accommodating site. It was recommended that at least one supervisor/ program manager attend with home visitors from a program. As in the past, there will be no charge for the conference. The planning committee will balance space, participation and funding. The conversation was opened for suggested themes and presentation topics. Jean reported that she received some emails with suggestions for conference topics. Theresa Booker suggested that a general email be sent to HVC participants asking for ideas that would be considered at the planning meeting scheduled for August 19. Jean agreed to send a general email. A theme will be developed around suggestions. The following suggestions came from the group at large: Transition to public school Field trips Using library services SEFEL model for parents Ideas that can be put to immediate use More advanced topics Working with teens Mental health Sex & birth control Safety How to present CPR/ 1st aid to parents Green & healthy houses Shaken baby Happiest baby on the block Updated contraception Pregnancy spacing How to approach a discussion about contraception with a family How to overcome personal anxieties regarding certain topics Ideas that are practical and hands-on HVC Committee Reports/Status/Business: As a reminder, the standards were passed at the last meeting and are posted on the MFN website. Professional Development: Colleen Wilburn and Shelly Edwards, Co-Chairs No report Communication Theresa Booker, Chair. No report. Teresa summarized that an email would be going out to everyone on the HVC list asking for suggested topics for the Conference. Standards Committee Carolyn Finney, Chair No report The next meeting will be on August 19 from 1-3 PM at Maryland Family Network and by Conference Call.
